For Love and Lemons - The Meredith Dress

Last year, I saw For Love & Lemons clothing in public for the first time. It looked pretty but the quality was way too poor for the price tag, as it didn’t look to be any better quality than Bluenotes (a Canadian clothing brand similar to Forever 21).
Fast forward to April 2022, For Love & Lemons had their annual warehouse sale and baby, I got hooked. The first few times I browsed their website I found nothing at the price range that I wanted but as soon as something I kiiind of wanted sold out, my FOMO instincts set in and my hunt began.
The first item from this hunt was the Meredith Mini Dress. I wasn’t searching for it very seriously, maybe once every two weeks or so, but eventually I happened to find it on Poshmark for a decent price. The price still wasn’t amazing but I really wanted it. Or so I thought. The dress arrived and all I felt when I saw it was ruffly disappointment.
The Quality
Quality wise, the sewing on the dress was passable but not amazing. The material is also 100% polyester so if you don’t like spending money on plastic, avoid this one. I will say that it didn’t look as cheap as it felt.
The Fit
For reference my measurements are 76 cm bust, 63 cm waist and 87 cm hips (US size: 30” bust, 24.8” waist and 35.35” hips). The measurements for xs on their size chart are 31-32" bust, 24-25"waist and 34-35" hips.
The fit was inconsistent because while the waist was somewhat tight, I felt like there was a bit of room left in the bust. However, in the size chart the bust measurement was larger than mine, so that could have been the problem.
The Comfort Level
Comfort-wise, it was decent. It wasn’t itchy or scratchy against my skin but the dress is 100% polyester, so please don’t wear it on an extra hot day! The most confusing part were these ribbons. What do they do? What are they for? How did people get them to fit? Was I wearing the dress wrong?! Someone help please — I swear it didn’t look like this in the ad!
Overall Thoughts
In my honest opinion, there are better For Love & Lemons items that you can buy. You can read about them in my upcoming posts. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of ruffles, especially at the shoulder so I’m biased. Also, style-wise I’m a believer in “less is more”, so I feel like this dress had just a bit too much going on with ribbons, cut outs, and frills at the shoulders. Maybe if there was just one of these elements, it would have looked better and appealed to me more, however all three together is a no from me.
