Selkie - 18th Dress

I wasn’t a huge fan of the fabric pattern that the 18th dress is available in but I was intrigued by the style. The waist placement was different from other Selkie dresses I had seen and I felt like it would suit me. I kept an eye on it, but it was only ever selling for ridiculously high prices. That is until the spring Selkie sale took place! I moved at lightning speed and snatched that selkie dress, plus another. I would later regret this when the Selkie mystery bag, the other dress, and this one all arrived within the same week and crowded my room.
For reference my measurements are 76 cm bust, 63 cm waist, and 87 cm hips (US: 30” bust, 24.8” waist, 35.35” hips).
The Quality
The dress was fine and there were no blaring issues. However the dress is 100% polyester, which is not exactly the modicum of fabrics. It appeared to have three layers and no cotton lining.
The Fit
The fit was inconsistent for me. The waist fit perfectly while the bust was loose, leaving a big gaping triangle. Maybe avoid this style of dress if you’re less busty, like me. Other than that, the shoulders fit fine and it wasn’t too short; it hit me around my mid thigh. However I am 5’3”, so if you’re taller beware.
The Comfort Level
I can’t say this dress was comfortable. When I tried it on in spring weather, it was hot and felt like a trap. Luckily the triangle cut-out at the top provided some breathing room. Every seam that touched my body was itchy; I could feel the fabrics and the threads. It was bad enough that after wearing it once I decided to sell it to the next lucky owner.
Overall Thoughts
Overall the dress fit me quite well with a push up bra, but I was not a fan of the colour or how the style looked on me. If I was a Jpop Idol I would wear this dress; when I wore it my first thought was that I belonged in an AKB48 music video. For those who don’t know who AKB48 is, it’s a Japanese idol group who holds the world record for the most members. The members in the video are a small fraction of the whole group:
I also felt like I belonged in a magical girl anime and needed some kind of staff and extra long socks to complete the look, along with a very annoying animal pal. However since I am now an age I will not disclose, and not a magical girl nor ever plan on being one, I decided the dress was very much not for me. Adding in the fit issues, selling was an easy decision for me.
